Recently, I was asked to speak to a small group of young adults at our church. A couple of hours leading up to the gathering I found myself reviewing my notes and praying that God would speak through me. What came next really caught me off guard. I was praying that the talk would go well, and as I was praying the Holy Spirit allowed me to see why I wanted the talk to go well. The truth…..I was concerned more about the group’s perception of me as a speaker. OUCH!
Something great came out of this. In this moment of embarrassment, God gave me these reminders on teaching His Word.
– We’re not anything to brag about. God is!
– Always pray that others would see God’s power over our ability.
– Our level of humility can directly influence the depth and potency of what we teach.
Many people did believe in him, however, including some of the Jewish leaders. But they wouldn’t admit it for fear that the Pharisees would expel them from the synagogue. For they loved human praise more than the praise of God. John 12:42-43 (NLT)
